Basic Information

The mission of the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE), located at the City University of New York’s Bronx Community College (BCC), is to promote and implement the use of sustainable and efficient energy technologies in urban communities through education, training, workforce development, research and project facilitation. The Center for Sustainable Energy supports clean energy development and energy conservation as the means to protect the environment, enhance public health and position New York City to capture emerging economic development opportunities in the energy sector. In 2007, the mayor’s office named CSE as the action arm of the New York City Solar America City partnership with the Department of Energy. CSE also plays a key role in helping the City University of New York fulfill its PlaNYC University Challenge to the City of New York to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2017. The Center for Sustainable Energy, established in 2003 at Bronx Community College, City University of New York, is funded with a Congressional appropriation sponsored by Representative José Serrano, and is administered through the U.S. Department of Energy.
