UTRC assembled a Transportation Policy Advisory Committee for the upcoming 2021 NYC Election and just released a report summarizing candidates’ positions on transportation issues.
During the 2021 primary election on June 22, New Yorkers will have a say in how the City moves forward from the pandemic. Every citywide office is on the ballot, including Mayor. As usual, the mayoral field is crowded. The leading Democratic contenders currently registering in the polls are Eric Adams (Brooklyn Borough President), Shaun Donovan (former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Obama), Kathryn Garcia (former Sanitation Commissioner under Mayor de Blasio), Ray McGuire (former Vice-chair of Citigroup), Dianne Morales (former Executive Director and CEO of social-services nonprofit Phipps Neighborhoods), Scott Stringer (New York City Comptroller), Maya Wiley (civil rights lawyer and activist; former counsel to Mayor de Blasio), and Andrew Yang (entrepreneur; former presidential candidate in the 2020 Democratic primary). In addition, there are two Republican candidates: Fernando Mateo (President of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers and spokesperson for the United Bodegas of America) and Curtis Sliwa (founder and CEO of the Guardian Angels and radio-talk-show host). Profiles for all the candidates are included in Appendix B.

2021 NYC Mayoral Report - Transportation Policy Primer Voter Guide. Candidates’ Positions and Plans
The 2013 General Election Day was on Tuesday, November 5th, 2013. Voters around New York City (NYC) took to the polls to select their next Mayor. The candidates on the ballot include: Bill de Blasio (Democratic Party nominee & NYC Public Advocate); Adolfo Carrion (Independence Party nominee & former Bronx Borough President); Jack Hidary (Independent & entrepreneur); and Joe Lhota (Republic Party nominee & past Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA Chair). Inspired by the University Transportation Research Center (UTRC)’s NYC Mayoral Candidates' Transportation Forum, held at Baruch College on June 19th, most every candidate issued comprehensive transportation policy plans and platforms -casting a well-deserved spotlight on these important issues. Former Taxi and Limousine Commissioner/Chair and UTRC Distinguished Lecturer Matthew W. Daus conceived, organized and moderated the first and only comprehensive, objective and independent mayoral candidate forum on transportation policy issues, in an academic setting at the City University of New York (CUNY). Complete coverage of the event can be accessed at the following link: http://vimeo.com/69013945.
As promised at the UTRC Mayoral Forum, the valuable ideas and positions of all candidates before, during and after the forum were carefully tracked, analyzed and set forth in not only a report we released before the September 10, 2013 primary, but also in this final General Election edition.
