Roger N. Anderson

Roger Anderson is Senior Scholar at the Center for Computational Learning Systems in the Fu School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. He is the inventor of 17 Patents, and has written 3 books and more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers. Roger is Principal Investigator of a team of 15 scientists and graduate students in Computer Sciences at Columbia that are developing the next generation of intelligent control systems for Smart City infrastructure (electricity, water, sewage, transportation).

Roger’s team was recently chosen as the “Winning University Program” in General Electric’s Ecomagination Innovation Challenge, winning a $1.2 million prize in New York City on November 16, 2010. Roger is also at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia, where he founded the Borehole Research, Global Basins, 4-D Seismic, Reservoir Simulation, Portfolio Management and Energy Research Groups. Roger has had technical, business, computational, and working collaborations with Baker Hughes, Boeing, BBN, BP, Chevron, Finmeccanica, IBM Research, KBR, Lockheed Martin, Pennzoil, Rudin Management, Schlumberger, Siemens, and Shell. Roger is co-founder of start-up energy companies 4-D Technology, Bell Geospace, and CALM Energy.
