Dr. Sengupta received his B.E. in mechanical engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. He received his Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Business from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Before coming to Hofstra, Dr. Sengupta taught at Indiana University, Michigan State University and Bucknell University. Immediately before joining the Hofstra faculty, Dr. Sengupta worked in the supply chain management industry at i2 Technologies, Inc., as a director of supply chain management solutions. He was with i2 Technologies for six years. His previous work experiences include multi-year engagements at Eicher Goodearth Ltd, India and Development Consultants Ltd, India.
Dr. Sengupta's teaching and research specialties are in the areas of operations management and supply chain management. At Hofstra, he is involved with teaching and curriculum development for the BBA, MBA and Executive MBA programs. His current focus areas of research are in the analysis of supply chain management trends and practices, and analysis of industry wide similarities and differences in supply chain practices. Other related research areas of interest include quality management, e-auctions and technology in supply chains. He has published in journals like Operations Research, Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Management and Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management.
Dr. Sengupta is a member of the Decision Sciences Institute, Institute of Operations Research and Management Sciences, Production and Operations Management Society, and the Institute of Supply Management.
