Dr. Dvorak is the William Howard Hart Professor of Mechanics. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, he is Fellow of ASME, ASCE, American Academy of Mechanics, and of the Society of Engineering Science. Among his recognitions are the 1992 the ASME Nadai Award for pioneering research in the mechanics of modern materials, especially the inelastic behavior of metal matrix composites, and for far-reaching contributions to the understanding of plasticity, fatigue and fracture behavior of fibrous composites; the 1994 Prager Medal of the Society of Engineering Science for contributions to solid mechanics, an honary doctorate of science from the Czech Technical University in Prague, and the 1999 Brown Engineering Alumni Medal. He serves on the U.S. National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
