Speaker: Dr. Delon Hampton, CEO of Delon Hampton & Associates
The Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Airports Authority has underway a $2 Billion + program to improve the service at Washington's National Airport and improve and expand service at Washington's Dulles International Airport. All aspects of both airports were affected-terminals, airside and landside. The total program will be discussed. The premier projects were the design and construction of 1) a new terminal facility at National Airport and 2) the expansion of Dulles terminal to twice its original size yet maintaining the original architecture. Both facilities are now in use. However, work continues at both airports to further enhance their efficiency of operation and user friendliness. The presentation will discuss issues related to the planning, design and construction related to improvements at these two airports.
Dr. Hampton serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered (DHA), a consulting engineering, design, and construction and program management services firm in its 25th year of continued growth. DHA, one of the top 360 design firms in America, specializes in providing civil, structural, and environmental engineering and construction and program management and planning services to local, state, and federal agencies and the private sector.
Dr. Hampton also was actively involved in university teaching and research for approximately 25 years and has published over 40 papers in professional and technical journals.
Dr. Hampton is active in several professional organizations. He is an Honorary Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and 1998-99 President-elect, and a member of the Associate Member Board of Governors of the American Public Transit Association (APTA). In addition to professional activities, Dr. Hampton is an active member of several civic organizations such as the Greater Washington Board of Trade's Board of Directors and serves as a Director for the Center for National Policy.
Dr. Hampton's honors include being a Councillor of the National Academy of Engineering, receiving Honorary Doctorate degrees from Purdue University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, being selected a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus and Old Master by Purdue University, being a recipient of the Civil Engineering Alumni Associations's Distinguished Alumnus Award of the University of Illinois, and being a recipient of the Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award and the James Laurie Prize both given by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
