Luis A. Godoy, a Civil Engineering since 1975, earned his Ph.D. from University College (University of London)in 1979. He has held faculty positions at various institutions including the National University of Cordoba, West Virginia University, and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Currently he serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering Department at West Virginia University. 

His research primarily focuses on structural mechanics, bulking dynamics structures and civil and oil infrastructure. Godoy published four research books. 

As principal Investigator, Godoy secured grants for studies on oil tank damage and environmental effects on materials. He also participated in a NSIT mission assessing post-hurricane infrastructure damage following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He has supervised the completion doctoral degrees for 20 students.
