Hoe I. Ling is a Civil Engineer specializing in Geotechnical Engineering Applications. He has industrial experience in Japan where he maintains cooperative research efforts.

Dr. Ling has begun modernizing the Burmister Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory in the Department and has initiated several research projects.

Prof. Ling is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) where he serves on the Geosynthetics Committee and a member of the International Geosynthetics Society. He is also a member of the Japanese and International Societies of Solid Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He was awarded the Research Award for Foreign Specialist by the Japan National Research Institute of Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Ling serves on the Editorial Board of Geosynthetics International , the leading journal devoted to Geosynthetics.
