This research project is to assess the roles and responsibilities of the Regional Information Technology organizations of New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The Information Technology (IT) resources of NYSDOT are organized using a matrix structure. The Main Office Information Technology Bureau has an advisory role in relationship to the Regional Information Technology organizations. In order to better understand the roles and responsibilities of the Regional Information Technology organizations, their resource needs must be identified and documented.

<p>This report documents and summarizes: Task 3- Identify guidelines to eliminate driver inattentiveness, and Task 4- Design alternative strategies and techniques for traffic control, for Phase II ? Research Approach of the study, &#39;Identification of Traffic Control Devices for Mobile and Short Duration Work Operations&#39;, for the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Task 3 was conducted by reviewing the technologies adopted by various DOTs and approved by SHRP for gaining driver?s attention.

<p>Work zone safety traffic control is an area that has been gaining a lot of attention during the past few years. Travelers come across several types of work zones on a regular basis due to increased maintenance and reconstruction along the nation?s highways. Work zones pose a hazard to the regular traveler in terms of safety. Evidence suggests an increasing number of fatalities, injuries, and costs due to work zone-related accidents.

Roadside rights-of-way are important technical and ecological features of the landscape. Managers of the vegetation in those rights-of-way are increasingly focused on environmental stewardship. Managers are interested in practices that will produce and demonstrate economically sound, socially responsible, and environmentally sensitive decision making and operational practice.

In recent years, the idea of bus rapid transit ? innovative bus services providing superior speed and convenience to traditional bus service ? has attracted growing interest both here and across the United States. The tremendously successful BRT systems in Bogotÿ, Colombia and Curitiba, Brazil, have stirred worldwide interest in whether BRT could be introduced elsewhere.
